Hi All,

I Know most of you have Setup Project Madeira. This article is for the Readers who still haven't setup Project Madeira with steps.

I have setup my Demo Copy and it look like as below -

Let's set it up for you.

1. Go to the Demo portal here:
    https://demos.microsoft.com/login#/

2. Log in as a Microsoft Partner.

3. Click on the "Tenants" link in the left hand navigation.

4. Click the Create link in one of the open tenant slots.
5. Click the "Quick Tenant" button to get your tenant
6. Select the type of tenant you require, typically this would be the Standard Office 365 Demo content.

7. Once tenant has been created you will be returned to the tenant page with your new Quick tenant assigned.

8. In the left panel, choose Demos, and then choose Create New Demo.

9. Fill in the fields, and create a new demo tenant using the quick tenant template.  This gives you an administrative email account, such as admin@MOD123456.onmicrosoft.com.

10. Now you are nearly ready to use. You will receive Email once all steps are completed. It will take some time to configure your System. Once the System is Ready you will again receive an email from Microsoft.

You can also check the progress from the first link how much % is your system ready.

10. Logon details for all demo tenants are standard. To logon to access your new tenant go to  http://portal.office.com

11. logon with: Admin@<TenantName>.onmicrosoft.com  (ex: admin@MOD123456.onmicrosoft.com) password: pass@word1 Then on to Project “Madeira”

12. Go to the Project “Madeira” site here and try the preview: https://madeira.microsoft.com/en-us/

13. When asked to log in, specify your demo email account, such as admin@MOD123456.onmicrosoft.com

14. That’s it!

Furthermore, make sure you choose U.S. REGION or Project “Madeira” won’t work for sign up.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any issues.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Madeira - Findings and Clarity.

Hi All,

More on Madeira Based on my Learnings on other Great Bloggers.

Do Not Confuse?

Project Madeira is Not Code Name for Microsoft Dynamics NAV Release.
Its a Code Name for Cloud Offering hosted by Microsoft within O365. Yes the code base is from Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016.

More Details On Microsoft Site.

What About NAV Future Release?

Microsoft made it very clear that Dynamics NAV isn't going away. It is not being replaced by Project “Madeira". We will continue to receive new versions of Dynamics NAV.

Who Will Sell?

Project “Madeira” will be sold through Cloud Solution Partners (CSPs), and not sold directly by Microsoft.

How You Customize Madeira?

The Possible to have a custom Solution for your customer in Madeira is by customizing NAV Code base using extensions.

You Need to learn how to develop extension, which in turn require Events & Subscriptions. If you are unaware about how Extensions or Events & Subscriptions works then refer below links.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Madeira - Compare with NAV.

Hi All,

It's being a while I haven written a Blog. So in this article we will try to compare Project Madeira with Microsoft Dynamics NAV Release.

So Let's  start with discussing the Modified Functionality available with Madeira.

Below are List of Functionality which were released with Public Preview in April 2016 & what we should expect in future.

Most of us still have some confusion between Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Project Madeira. Below is comparison between two.

As we were discussing about how Project Madeira can be extended (Customized) only using Extensions. And i am sure people started learning Extensions in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016.

So as you can see there are multiple customers in Same Azure SQL Database and with Multi Tenancy approach each customer have a seprate instance of the data.

+ On top it you can release extension and enable them on customer Request like in picture above, Customer 1,2, 6 & n are using standard release.

where Customer 4 is using Extension A & B, but customer 3 & 5 are using Extension B.

Hope the article would have given you some idea about Project Madeira.

Stay connected.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 - Page Does not Show Paste Rows Option.

Hi All,

As you know with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 onwards, we can copy and paste data from client to excel.

But with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016, there is an issue in this functionality.

In this article I would like to discuss one issue that you might face in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016.

So Below is the image of issue that you may find in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 -

As you can see only option that we have in Right Click is Copy Rows and there is no Paste Rows.

How to Resolve it?

 - Check the Source Table of Page where you have the issue from About this page.

 - Open Developer Environment, Design the table. In my case the table is 81 Gen. Journal Line.

- Navigate to Table Properties and Change Property "PasteIsValid"To TRUE, as below.

Now Let's see in the page after changing the property.

Hope Microsoft Fix issue in Upcoming Microsoft Dynamics NAV Cumulative Update for 2016.

Hope you find the article useful.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 India - Do You Know This?

$

Hi All,

As last week Microsoft Released Dynamics NAV 2016 with Indian Localization.

I was having NAV 2016 Cumulative Update 04 Installed, so I just restored the database and tried to access the Indian Database released with product.

To my surprise it said that The database has already been converted by a newer version.

Next I updated my exe to Latest Cumulative Updated (CU 06) Released By Microsoft and again tried to open it but again same error.

Now that was wired, and I started investigating the Exe released with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 IN release. To My surprise the exe build is 45778 which is no where available in Partner source.

I assume that is Build No. of Next Cumulative Update CU 07 which will be releasing this month.

Finding 01 - Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 IN have CU 07 Platform Fixes Applied.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember NAV 2013 R2, there was a bug identified for data deleting and Microsoft Removed Product DVD till Cumulative Update 05 and suggested to Use Cumulative Update 06.

All the Localized Versions were released but if I remember it correctly For Indian release (and I think for all other country localization where CU are not released) only Exe was upgradedno merging of Application Hotfix was done.

So based on that experience I assumed that with NAV 2016 Microsoft would have shipped NAV 2016 IN with Base Release (CU 0) but exe upgraded to Cumulative Update 07.

Check the Object Designer , the Dynamics NAV 2016 for IN is actually have Application Hotfix Merged with Version Tag 45778.

Finding 02 - Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 IN have CU 07 Application Fixes Applied.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There were so many discussion for Swach Bharat Tax for Indian Localization for NAV 2013 R2 and NAV 2009. Microsoft had released a fix for SBC for NAV 2013 and 2013 R2 already.

But with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 IN, SBC is implemented as a part product. I think so as I don't know the configuration but I see SBC in Service Tax Setup and in some Reports.

Finding 03 - Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 IN have SBC Implemented.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am reading comments on social media, where consultants have configured Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 IN Release and testing. Most of the comments I read, I find people are loving the new release and started implementing time on the product.

Aren't we proud Indian Localization is the first localized Version who received Cumulative Update 07 before its released globally.

So Thanks To Microsoft Dynamics Team for -
 - Releasing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 with Indian Localization.
 - Applying the Latest Cumulative Update on the Release.

At the End I would like to leave you with some questions -
  - Is Indian Localization is part of Cumulative update that are released monthly?

Stay Connected & Keep Reading.

Thanks

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 - How to Setup NAS & Job Queue

$

0
Hi All,

In today’s article we will see how we can setup NAS in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013, NAV 2013 R2 and NAV 2015.

Till Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, NAS used to come as a separate exe, which first need to be installed and then configured separately for Scheduling Jobs.

If you are looking NAS for NAV 2009 or Previous Refer here.

If you are looking How To Setup Job Queue For NAV 2009 or Previous Refer here.

If you are looking How to Setup Job Queue and NAS in NAV 2016 Refer Video Here.

With NAV 2013 and Later Microsoft Changed the way how NAS is executed –

 - Now NAS is executed at the service tier.
 - NAS is now part of Microsoft Dynamics NAV Administration for configuration.

The Best Practice I would suggest to configure NAS is to create a Separate Service with –

- No Access to User. (Connection String is not shared)
- Service Account (Account used to run services) – Should have sufficient permission in SQL and Navision.

So let’s open Microsoft Dynamics NAV Administration and configure NAS.
** For the Demo I am using NAV 2015, but step remain same for NAV 2013 and NAV 2013 R2.

As you can see in above image, we have a Separate Tab for NAS configuration. Some parameters are known, but some are new. Let’s understand every Parameter.

Enable Debugging (If you want to debug NAS Session) - When this setting is enabled, the NAS services session waits 60 seconds before executing the first C/AL statement, to allow time for activating and attaching the NAV Debugger to the NAS services session.

Retry Attempts per Day - The NAS Services on a tenant is restarted after a failure up to the configured number of times in a 24 hour period. Once the limit is exceeded, it fails permanently.

Startup Argument – Yes we know it. The available options remain same as old days.
"ADCS, ADCSID=1"   OR “OSYNCH" OR “JOBQUEUE"

Startup Code unit – Specifies the codeunit that contains the method that will be called by the NASStartupMethod setting.

0: NAS Services do not start.
1: Run the trigger specified by the NAS Startup Method in codeunit 1.
450: Run codeunit 450 (Job Queue - NAS Start Up), and call the method specified by NASStartupMethod.

Startup Method – Specifies the method that will be called in the NASStartupCodeunit.

"": If no start method is specified (null string), the OnRun trigger is called.
StartNAS: NAS services runs the StartNAS method in the NAS Startup Codeunit.

If you are trying to replicate the Old NAS here are the Values –

Parameter
Value
Enable Debugging
Based on Requirement. (Default – FALSE)
Retry Attempts per Day
Based on Requirement. (Default – 3)
Startup Argument
JOBQUEUE
Startup Code unit
1
Startup Method
StartNAS

** Make sure that the new service which you configured is running with a domain account having sufficient permission on SQL and Navision. Change here as below, do not keep it Network service.

After this the configuration is completed. Let’s start Navision and Navigate to Job Queue.
.../Departments/Administration/Application Setup/Job Queue

First Thing we need to setup is Job Queue Category List. With the Category the Job Queue and Job Queue Entries are grouped. So Just add Code and Description as per your need.

Next is to create Job Queue Entries, which are same as of old days.

You can setup the parameters as you used to.

 - Select the Report or Codeunit that you want to schedule.
 - Select Parameter if required.
 - Select Job Queue Category Code Created above.
 - Other parameters are self explanatory.
 - In The Next Tab (Recurrence) you can setup when you want to run the batch and also the start and end time when it should run on the selected day.
 - And between the Starting and Ending Time, how frequently you want to run (in minutes).

Next is to Create a Job Queues as shown below.

With NAV 2013 onwards, if you want to setup to run automatically then setup the NAS Settings Tab.

If you are testing then Don’t configure the fields in the NAS Settings and for testing use Start Job Queue and Stop Job Queue from actions.

Once you setup you should see something like, which means Job Queue running.

You can check the status of Running jobs using ” Job Queue Log Entries”.

Hope you find the article useful.

If you have any issues let me know.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 / 2016 - How to Create a Blank Database with Blank Company?

$

Hi all,

This was part of question series #IKnowNav that I started. The reason behind the article as most of the responses answered its not possible.
+
Most of us need to create such database during implementation of a project.

In this article we will see steps to achieve same.

For the Demo I am using NAV 2016 but steps remain same for NAV 2015 also.

Steps -

1. Create a New Database in NAV 2016 using Developer Environment.
** I Name my Database as Blank Database.

2. Next Create a Service for the database or change database name on any existing service. (Don't Start Service).

** I Name my service as BlankService.
** Make sure that service account should have sufficient permission on SQL for database.

3. Export all objects from the Cronus Demo Database based on your requirement.
** I am taking all objects from NAV 2016 W1.

4. Open Blank Database created and From File Menu, Import all objects exported in Step 3.
Select Replace all from import Worksheet window and select Later in the schema synchronization option.

** If you don't know what these option means you can read here.

5. Start the Service and From Developer Environment (RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR) either compile all objects with schema synchronization as Now with validation or from Tools select sync. schema for all tables - with Validation.

6. Now if we want to run the Role Tailored Client for Blank Database, we will end up with this error.

7. so we need company to start RTC Client. What are our options to create a new company?
Yes its Powershell or NAV Administration shell.

How to Create a New Company in Database? (Using Powershell)

OR

Open Dynamics NAV 2016 Administration Shell (Run as administrator).

Use Cmdlet New-NAVCompany and select Enter.
Enter Parameters Company Name & Service Name as shown below.
Once you see prompt back that means company is created.

8. Let's try to access Windows Client now.

I hope you will find the post useful and let me know as comments if you have any issues.

Hi All,

Last week I attended a NAV Directions Webinars, where there is something that I would love to share with you all.

I was amazed to see the future of Extensions, its more than what we discussed about extensions missing features in earlier blog post and same were the views from the Blog Readers.

I am pretty sure you will be amazed by reading what is future of Extensions.

Let's start it with why its important to Learn Microsoft Dynamics NAV Extension.

1. If you are reading about Project Madeira, you know that any custom solution that you want to deploy in project Madeira can be done via Extensions.

2. Extensions in NAV are also easy to upgrade whenever a new version is released.

3. Extension in NAV is easy to deploy in a multi Tenant Environment.

I hope you would have read the Article series for Extension. If not you can read it from here.

This is what we should we expect in coming October related to Extensions.

So you see From October Onwards Extensions will support -
 - All Object Types in Navision.
 - Net Add-ins.
 - Data.
 - Translations.
 - Developing.

If you are interested to learn more about extension from Microsoft below are some links -

Hi All,

As we all are testing Project Madeira, this seems to be a requirement which will be asked by every customer whom we plan to sell the solution.

How Do I Import my business data in Project Madeira?

In this article we will see how simple it is to migrate Business Data in Project Madeira. For Demo I am importing data from the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 US Release.

** If you are testing the same,I would suggest to use the US Release only as other setup will be part of the US Database.

So Let's Login to Project Madeira and From the Action Pane Select Assisted Setup and Task.

From the Assisted Setup window select Migrate Business Data.

This will open the data migration Window. Select Next in the Welcome window as shown below.

Next Window allow you to select the Data Source from where you want to import data. The available options as of now are -
  Import From Excel.
  Import from QuickBooks (IIF)

For the Demo I will select Import From Excel.

Click Next and Download the Template for Importing Data.

The Excel File with Three Sheets, Customers Vendors and Items will be downloaded to your system. Key In the data that you need to import in Project Madeira and select Next as shown in above screen.

Choose the File from next window where you have updated the Masters.

System will confirm you the Master Count as shown in above screen, before applying data in Project Madeira.

Once you hit Next, System will start applying package in the Project Madeira.

Once completed, system will confirm you the status of update. there are Few records which were not imported due to secondary master was not available. You can check the details after clicking ok in above screen.

Once you imported you can see the new masters in the system as shown below .

Hope this helps.

Stay tuned, yet more to come.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV RTC - What Option to Select in System Indicator Style.

Hi all,

This article is for me to remember the colour codes that system indicator style have. I always get confused and always looking for what option will bring what colour in my system indicator style when I select it in my company information.

So if you know if already, you can move ahead and Save some time...

But those who have same issues like me, below is the image which provides you what system indicator style to choose when you set it up in company information.

So now I will remember what to choose.

As we are discussing this let me know your views (comments) on what you setup in a Test Database and in a Production Database when you setup a Company.

I Prefer - Accent1 = Test Database (All Companies).
Accent3 = Production Database (All Companies).

Those who don't know what it is -

- It was released with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 (if I am not wrong).
- You can set it up in Company information under system indicator Tab.

Video to help you out how to set it up -

A Tip to developers, if you have multiple companies you can create a batch and run that for all companies using ChangeCompany function to setup system indicator.

Let me know your views.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 - Implement the Camera in C/AL.

$
0
0

Hi All,

With Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 Camera can be integrated with Dynamics NAV Client.

This article steps how we can add access to camera to a specific page from the development environment. Adding a camera option to the Item card, for example, lets you take a picture of a specific item and store it with the item.

Thanks To +nishant srivastava  & +Riska Tirtasari  for the post, who suggested to have  this article.

Remember - Camera Integration will work only on Phone / Tablet Client.

1. In the development environment, on the Tools menu, choose Object Designer to open the Object Designer window.

2. In Object Designer, choose Pages, select the Item Card (page 30) and choose the Design button.

3. Add Picture in the general tab as shown below.

4. From the Page Designer window, on the View menu, choose C/AL Globals.

Create the following two variables:

Variable name
DataType
SubType
Camera
DotNet
Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.Capabilities.CameraProvider.'Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.ClientExtensions, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'
CameraAvailable
Boolean

5. Make sure to set the properties RunOnClient and WithEvents to Yes, for the Camera Dotnet Variables as shown below.

6. Let's Now add an action for Accessing Camera. Add a action with following properties -

Name - TakePicture.
Enabled - CameraAvailable
Image - Camera.
Promoted - Yes.
Promoted Category - Process.
PromotedIsBig - Yes.

Add Following Code for the New Action Created.
-------------------------------------
Camera.RequestPictureAsync;
-------------------------------------

7. As we enabled WithEvents for the New Camera DotNet Variable. A New Trigger will be available as below -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Camera::PictureAvailable(PictureName : Text;PictureFilePath : Text)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Add following code for uploading Image In the Database.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FileManagement.BLOBImportFromServerFile(TempBlob,PictureFilePath);
Rec.Picture := TempBlob.Blob;
Rec.MODIFY;
MESSAGE('Image Updated For Item %1 - %2',Rec."No.",Rec.Description);
FILE.ERASE(PictureFilePath);

3. Let's Execute By Running the Report with new Function.

Create a new report which export data from customer table and save the File is the path specified in the SMTP Setup. As shown below instead of using CreateBookAndOpenExcel we use CreateBookAndSaveExcel.

And once we execute the Report, the report is saved in the Path where we setup in the SMTP Setup.

Objects can be downloaded from - Dynamics User Group or Skydrive.

File Name  - NAV 2016_Save to Excel

** If you are planning to merge it on a custom database then the attachment have before and after the text files are available in the download files.

You can also make it more generic by passing File Name from the Report Itself.
